Nature holds a dual importance, fundamental to our physical presence.  At once we must be in touch and live our inner, human nature, our Spirit.  We are also called to notice, to live with nature external - water, earth, animals, plants - and know that we are all one, nature, one nature.  Balance is crucial to both.
NATURE
SPIRIT
Our indigenous soul calls us to acknowledge, validate, develop and empower our relationship to Spirit, that which we first and best know through nature.  It is that which animates, enlivens and enlightens All That Is

We are Spirit
in physical form
on this earth.
Modern society is by design disempowering.  Our dis-spirited surreality pulls us apart at the seams.  Spirit knows no disconnect except the one we create - or allowPower comes from resonance, connection, our choice to be one with each other in true empowered humanity & community with Spirit.
POWER
Ukumbwa is an initiated Elder in the West African Dagara tradition and is currently working as a diviner, numerologist, shamanic practitioner and card reader.  He has been studying and practicing African, Native American and other cultural and spiritual traditional elements. Ukumbwa has deeply explored the African social, political and spiritual presence in the world through formal and informal academic study, political activism, social connection, educational work and community-building.  His connection with the traditions of the Dagara tribe and Malidoma Patrice Some' is a  natural outgrowth of this powerful process of exploration and discovery.  Ukumbwa's work as a teacher at the higher education level has been supported deeply by this spiritual path, bringing new focus and meaning to his work in cultural media studies and literacy, challenging our ways of defining humanity, human nature and relationships and our ways of understanding our relationship to nature and the environment.  Ukumbwa has completed the 2-year training facilitated by Malidoma Some' (link), Alwyn Thomas and the East Coast Village (link) Dagara Elders in Indigenous African Spiritual Technologies, a powerful engagement and learning in ritual, community and Spirit.

Ukumbwa is also researching indigenous culture and spirituality toward a book entitled "Indigeny and Energetics".  He is developing his work through his blog at
http://indigeny-energetics.blogspot.com.  In addition, he is in continuing research toward a proposed Ph.D. looking at the connection between the  television and cinematic media and the "nature narrative" in an era of global warming and environmental degradation.

Ukumbwa is excited to offer presentations on healing, ritual, community, media and culture,  Dagara spirituality and culture and other diverse topics.  More presentations, discussions and workshops are being sought in the New England area and beyond.  As always, Ukumbwa is most excited about the opportunity to support and engage in frank and open discussions and conversations about our world, spiritual issues, religious ideas, culture and media and to to challenge us to move forward and advance society into an energetic of deep and abiding compassion, courage, caring, action and love.  His presentations are highly participatory as he feels this is the only way to open up and support the gifts and intelligence that lie within us all and change the context of fear, apathy, ignorance and secrecy that exists around issues of social and spiritual growth and real human empowerment.

Ukumbwa, as a member of the Dagara Water Clan, is dedicated to the healing process, ways of connecting humans to each other and to the world of Spirit.  His work as a diviner, numerologist and spiritual counsel is a key part of this dedication.  Understanding the oneness in and of all things, he seeks to assist people in the process of unlocking their true potential as Spirit in physical form, cutting through the haze of confusion that modernity brings so squarely to our lives and providing intellectual, material and spiritual pathways to human empowerment, spiritual validation and to helping people to free themselves to live their true Nature, Spirit and Power.
The five elements in the Dagara cosmology form a core set of energetic dynamics that help us to assess the health and well-being of a person, persons or a whole community.  Those elements are Fire, Water, Earth, Mineral and Nature.  Each has physical and spiritual attributes which are powerful medicine for the return and maintenance of personal and social health.  The corresponding numbers are the foundation of the numerological work and the representative colors are also ways of tapping into the energy of  each element.  Diviners and healers use the relationship of these elements and their particular imprints in the body/mind/spirit to assist the divinee or client in their healing process.
These elements are in and of themselves powerful physical and spiritual entities that we are called upon to understand, respect and grow in deeper relationship with.
This type of familial relationship with Nature is an integral part of our "indigenous soul" and the promise for our renewed connection to who we really are and to the
S
piritual Power of Nature.
