Dagara Spiritual Awareness Practice -

Dagara Spiritual Awareness Practice is a process that will engage the five natural elements of the Dagara cosmology, the Ancestors, Spirit in Nature and the promise of healing and a deepened sense of community in an alienating modern world. Based in the Dagara indigenous spiritual and cultural traditions of Burkina Faso, West Africa as taught by Malidoma Some’, this practice will provide opportunities to find greater spiritual resonance and unity through Ancestral invocation, facilitator presentation, elemental ceremony and ritual and open communal sharing. Each session will focus on the Ancestors and one of the five cosmological elements (fire, water, earth, mineral, nature).

Dagara Spiritual Awareness practice is suitable for people of all responsible ages whether or not you are familiar with Dagara traditions or Malidoma Some’s work. See my "Cosmology" and other pages on this site for more info on the Dagara cosmology.  For more information about Malidoma, please read “Of Water and the Spirit”, “Healing Wisdom of Africa” or see his website at http://www.malidoma.com/.

The next session is on Feb. 2nd and will focus on the energy and Spirit of Kusir/mineral.  Please be free to bring items that are remnants of mineral: stones, bones, metal, shells, rocks and fabrics for the shrine with dominant colors of white and/or grey or black & white.
Dagara Spiritual Awareness Practice sessions will be about 3 hours long and will generally take place on the 1st thursday of each month from 7pm to 10pm unless otherwise stated.

The sessions are hosted by the Black Indian Inn, 38 Bicknell St., Dorchester, MA (http://www.blackindianinn.com/bii/page.php?pageKey=4).

Exchange is asked on a sliding scale from $10 to $25 per session. The sessions will be facilitated by Ukumbwa Sauti, initiated Dagara Elder/Diviner/Spiritual Counselor and Rebecca deGraw, Dagara/Kontomble diviner.
